WFM are proud to announce that four of our radio programmes have been nominated for community radio awards. The awards recognise the work, effort and passion that goes into community radio and it's work it does to bring communities together.

Earlier in the year, Ben Cooper spoke about a Manchester initiative called "Too Great For Hate" which encouraged victims and witnesses to report hate incidents and crimes, motivated by race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or trans identity. The work has been nominated for "Championing and supporting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion" category.

Johnny Robinson celebrated 25 years of WFM, speaking to volunteers past and present, along with songs that reminded them of WFM. Johnny's guests included the founder of Radio Regen, Phil Korbel about WFM came into existence, spoke to former station manager Jason Kenyon about how he got involved, some of the station's longest running presenters such as Elvister, and now Radio 2 presenter OJ Borg who was a former presenter from the early days. The show was nominated in the category "Celebrating & Championing Community Radio of the Year"

Plastic Fantastic presenters George and Manon have been nominated for the "Arts & Creative Radio of the Year" category with their show entitled "Club Plastique", a music and soundscape adventure transporting the listener around the imaginary club. The duo explore their way around the club's various rooms, immersing the listener into a desirable disco destination.

Marie Greenhalgh has been recognised for her show nominated for "Community Impact Project of the Year". Stronger Routes To Better Health uses local storytelling, art, and audio to address major health priorities like heart health, diabetes, and cancer screenings.

The awards take place in Birmingham on the 24th of October. WFM wishes the best of luck to the nominees!
